Frequently asked questions

Q. Will I have to pay anything towards the cost of work?

A. In the majority of cases the grant maximum will be enough to cover the recommended work. However in some circumstances (e.g. where a gas supply is needed) there may be an excess payment required. If this is the case you will be advised of this before any work takes place.

Q. Who will carry out the work?

A. All the work is carried out by our approved contractors, who are suitably qualified and experienced. We also inspect all heating installations and a proportion of insulation work.

Q. My boiler is very old, are you able to upgrade it?

A. The scheme does not cover the replacement of a working heating system, even if it may be old or inefficient. Replacing working systems would divert resources from those who have no heating at all.

Q. I was not aware of the scheme and paid for energy efficiency improvements myself. Can I claim the money back under HEES?

A. No retrospective payments are offered under the HEES scheme. We do try and ensure that information about the scheme reaches those likely to qualify. Even if you have had paid for some work there may be other improvements available such as loft or cavity wall insulation which the grant will cover.

Q. There is no gas in my area, am I still able to have heating?

A. Providing you are eligible, then either oil or electric heating is available under the scheme in areas where there is no gas supply.

Please note:
The National Assembly for Wales reserves the right at any time to recover the grant, in whole or in part, if it is not used for the approved purpose(s) or if the Assembly considers that any other terms or conditions of the grant are not being fulfilled.
