An assessor will contact you to arrange to visit your home. This is usually within a month of the date when you apply.

When the assessor visits your home, they will check which benefits you receive. The assessor will need to see proof of your benefits and, if rented, the type of tenancy you have. Both must be current on day of the visit. Once the assessor has confirmed that you qualify, they will discuss the improvements that are available under the scheme.

If you rent your home, we will contact your landlord for permission to carry out the work.

If we recommend central heating, we will apply for a gas supply if you do not already have one, or check that your electricity supply is suitable. Please remember that gas supplies can take some time to arrange.

A HEES-approved installer will contact you to arrange the work. If we are installing a heating system the installer will carry out a technical survey. If the cost of the work will be more than the grant available, we will let you know before starting the work.

We may contact you to inspect the work. We regularly assess the standard of work carried out under the grant, so you can be confident that you will receive a quality service.
